What to Expect / What is Required

Registration is required, but is not a guarantee of admission to boot camp. You will receive a confirmation of your admission to Boot Camp. Dr. Shen reserves the right to limit the total number of participants in order to maximize participant experience.

Active engagement in the sessions is required. This means that I may call on you to join discussion, and you will be asked to engage through interactive polls. Some light pre-reading will also be required. In short: this is not just a sit and watch experience. I will teach this the same way I teach my classes, and that means you will need to get involved. (Don’t worry, it will be fun!)

Pre-Reading: Before Boot Camp, please read Chapter 1 from Owen D. Jones, Jeffrey D. Schall & Francis X. Shen, Law and Neursocience (2nd ed. 2021). Available for free download at: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2406960

Cameras on, Attend all sessions: Note that all participants will be required to attend ALL sessions and have their Zoom video on in order to fully engage with the material.

No CLE / CME credit: This program will not be eligible for CLE or CME credit.

Suggested donations

FREE for Students and Recent Graduates (last 3 years): You should save your money for tuition, rent, and student loans. If you are a current student or trainee at any stage, or you graduated from your program within the past 3 years, this program is FREE for you. I am not going to verify student status or graduation years. We will use the honor code.

SUGGESTED DONATION for Everyone Else: If you are no longer a student, and have been out of school for at least 3 years, I ask that you consider making a donation to support the University of Minnesota Law School. These donations will allow the Shen Neurolaw Lab to deepen its community engagement work. The following suggested donation amounts are just that — suggestions. You may be in-between jobs or otherwise unable to pay. That’s fine. I want no financial boundaries to get in the way of you and neurolaw. But if you can afford it, we appreciate your contributions to sustain our work as we navigate reduced NIH funding.

Suggested Donation Amount (for those who are non-students): .1% of income, e.g.

  • .1% of $50k = $50
  • .1% of $75k = $75
  • .1% of $150k = $150
  • And so on …
